Mary Gillmore - Summerlea 75F - Southwold Beach Hut

Hello

My name is Mary Gillmore and I'm the owner of Summerlea, beach hut in Southwold. My family bought the beach hut in 2014 when a new row of huts were built to cater to the ever-increasing demand in Southwold.

We love our hut and try to make it very much a home from home including all the little things that make it a joy. We have for example, curtains so you can change in privacy, cushions, plenty of chairs and even suncream so you don't burn on those gorgeous sunny days by the sea.

Our Story.....

Welcome to Southwold Beach Hut!

Built in 2014 our hut is modern, very clean, and just adorable. It’s located next door but one to the Pier on the North Beach is family owned and has beautiful traditional blue and white beach decor.

Our hut is named after my family home. In the early 1960s my parents bought a beautiful Victorian house in Crowborough, E. Susses which was named 'Summerlea'. We decided this would be the ideal name for our beach hut as it's like our second home.

The hut has a perfect position overlooking Southwold Beach, with stunning sea views and a gorgeous sandy seashore.  A few seconds' walk from the famous Southwold Pier and is conveniently next to a large car park and the public toilets.  For information and costs on car parking in Southwold please click here.

Imagine going to the seaside with your family, getting to your beach hut, opening up, and having everything you need for the day just waiting for you.   All you have to pack before you leave home are towels, costumes, wet suits, snacks, and drinks for the day. Hiring a beach hut is the best way to spend time by the sea. We offer daily hire as well as weekly.

When you arrive simply set up the chairs, table, and sun loungers, make drinks, and get ready for the day ahead. While the children go to the beach a few meters from the hut, you can sit and watch them play.  With as many hot or cold drinks as you need, and snacks at hand, just lay back and enjoy your day.  At lunchtime, everyone can get together for maybe a toasted sandwich or soup around the table away from the sun.  If you have all enjoyed a swim you can easily get changed in the warm beach hut.  A great meeting point for friends and family & there are plenty of seats & blankets for everyone. You can take photos, film the children and drink wine to your heart's content until sunset.

The life of a beach hut is what we’ve chosen for our family. It's very convenient and saves a fortune by not having to go to cafe's for food and drinks. A family of 4 can easily spend in excess of £80 a day for these things not to mention trips to the shops to buy beach toys to keep the children entertained. In the blanket box you can find playing cards and board games, or if you are all feeling more energetic beach games - everything you need is provided for you.

Access to the beach is via 6 steps and there is also a very wide ramp close by.  Other attractions within 5 minute's walk are:

Boating Lake, Restaurants, Cafe's, Gift Shops, Mini Golf, Amusement Arcades, Life Guard Station, Punch & Judy, beach walks, and pubs are just a 10-minute walk away!

If you want to slip away and enjoy some local food, Southwold has some amazing cafe’s and restaurants that all cater to families. Café on the Green serves quick, fresh, tasty sandwiches if you don’t want to make your own.   The Lord Nelson sells amazing pub food, it gets very busy but sells the best chips! Sole Bay Fish Company is located in the harbour and sells fresh fish daily. The large car park next door to the hut also sells fresh shellfish daily, although sells out after a couple of hours as the fish is so good, make sure you get there early!

Southwold Pier has plenty of places to eat from traditional fish and chips to 3 course meals, again it gets really busy here at peak times but definitely worth a visit. Suzie’s Beach Cafe is real fun, and a varied premises, which also sells beach games – you may have a long wait for your food at peak times.

The hut is fully equipped with:

2 x Sun Loungers, 3 x Folding Camping Chairs, 4 x Folding chairs, Blankets, 1 x Folding Table, 2 Ring Hob, Grill – including gas, cutlery, crockery, saucepan, cafetiere, kettles, assorted games for all ages, and lots other goodies.......

All we ask is for you to respect the hut and leave it in a clean, neat and tidy state at the end of your stay.
